I want an aquarium: where to start?
It should be noted right away that aquaristics for beginners is a rather expensive hobby, if we talk about initial investments. But what should be taken into account for those who firmly decided to purchase an aquarium?

The first question that needs to be answered by the future aquarist is whether the aquarium will play the role of a decorative element, or is it the primary task of the life support of the selected organisms?

The answer will determine one of two approaches to choosing a tank:

The harmony with the interior is highlighted. The choice of the inhabitants of the underwater world will be limited by the external shape of the aquarium and its decoration.
The volume and geometry of the glass part of the aquarium will be dictated by the small inhabitants. The decision is made on the basis of the number and size of fish, their compatibility and living conditions, the necessary plants, as well as equipment to support life.
Types of aquariums
Large manufacturers of aquariums are doing everything to make it easier for customers to choose a container that matches their aesthetic and functional requirements.

Classic (rectangular).
Usually the width of the aquarium is equal to its height. Such proportions facilitate the free movement of aquatic inhabitants and the proper enrichment of water with oxygen. Panoramic.
You can recognize them by the panoramic sight glass, which increases the viewing angle of the aquarium. The front wall may be curved or consist of several parts.

An aquarium is a way to make good use of corner space. Due to the unusual appearance and the creation of the depth of space, the angular types of aquariums (they can have a trapezoidal and hemispherical shape) are used by designers.
Cylindrical (octahedrons).
It attracts with a pleasant appearance, but due to the deformed walls, the inhabitants of the tank will seem unnatural. If the aquarium is in the center of the room, this effect is almost not felt.

Round.
This type can safely be called obsolete. The appearance of the fish is greatly distorted due to the curvature of the glass. Plus, mud covers not only the bottom, but also the walls of the tank.
How to choose an aquarium for home? The first step is to decide on the volume. Based on the size of the container there are:

small (up to 50 l);
medium (50-100 l);
large (more than 100 l).
The weight of some structures is several tons.

According to the purpose, aquariums are distinguished:

Decorative. Populated by fish of the same family or species.
Special Designed for breeding and treatment of aquatic organisms, conducting experiments and experiments.

Aquarium at home: which glass is better?
Glass is 30% of the cost of the aquarium, and the element on which 1/3 of all the characteristics of the reservoir depends.

A home starter aquarium can be made from:

1. Silicate glass (as in windows). A solid, transparent, and immune to chemical attacks material, the disadvantage of which is fragility. Has a noticeable greenish tint.
2. Acrylic glass. Lightweight and soft material. Due to its flexibility and ductility, such a glass is difficult to break, but scratches quickly appear on it. Its second plus is injury safety (it is recommended to buy in apartments with small children). The material is vulnerable to chemicals that are used to clean the walls of algae. Most of the acrylic products on the market are products from Chinese manufacturers.
Rectangular models are usually created from silicate glass, arc – from acrylic.
