COMMON DISEASES IN COWS
For any farmer, the health of his livestock is important. He must not only properly care for, feed and support his animals, but also in time to recognize a particular disease. In case of illness, he needs to start treatment on his own or consult a specialist. Also, knowing the symptoms of possible sores, carry out preventive measures in cows.
Consider the most common diseases in cattle:
Endometritis is an inflammatory process on the uterine mucosa. Most often, acute postpartum endometritis occurs, in which the uterine mucosa is injured and infected. This happens as a result of a difficult birth, after an abortion, with a delay in the afterbirth.
In the first few days, the following symptoms are observed in cows: an increase in body temperature by several degrees, refusal to eat, and a decrease in milk yield.
Further, you can notice blood discharge from the uterus in an animal with pieces of tissue, alternating with the release of pus. The uterus is enlarged and lowered.
For quick and effective recovery, complex treatment is carried out with drugs: furazolidone, neofur in combination with iodosol, iodinol, ichthyol solution in glucose solution, antibiotic oxytocin.
Routine examinations should be done to cows before and after calving. The following medicines should also be taken: trivitamin, microelements in the form of feed additives, antimicrobials, thymalin, beta-carotene.
Mastitis is an inflammatory process in the udder of cows that occurs in unsanitary conditions during milking, during serious bruises or diseases of the genital organs.
If the cow shows the following symptoms, this indicates this disease: after milking in milk, white clots with blood can be found, the udder swells, the body temperature rises and the appetite decreases sharply. In this case, you should immediately contact a specialist or start treatment.
Until recently, the only way was antibacterial therapy, which affected the quality of milk. To date, autolactotherapy has appeared, in which the diseased part is injected subcutaneously with a sterilized secret, while doing an udder massage and expressing milk every couple of hours.
The only preventive moment is to follow the rules of sanitation when caring for the udder and when milking cows.
Leptospirosis is a disease that is of a natural focal nature.
Both young and adult cattle are affected. Usually the disease does not show any symptoms, sometimes you can notice the following: a temporary increase in body temperature, jaundice, disruption of the gastrointestinal tract and problems with calving.
For the treatment of the disease, a special antileptospirosis hyperimmune serum is used. But this is not enough, so tetracycline and streptomycin, synthomycin, glucose, caffeine, laxatives, biovit, and tilbian are also used. It is also necessary to observe a diet and rest in relation to cows.
For the purpose of prevention, it is necessary to conduct comprehensive examinations: a study of blood serum on PMA, microscopic and bacteriological analysis of urine. Well, pay special attention to the place where the livestock is grazed and the place of the watering place.
Ketosis is a cattle disease associated with metabolic disorders, accompanied by weight loss, loss of milk yield and possible abortions.
This disease is more likely seasonal, since its appearance is noticed in the autumn-winter period and directly depends on the quality of animal feed. Cows over four years old are exposed to them.
When a disease occurs, the following symptoms can be detected: the animal becomes irritable, shy, anxious, there is a decrease in appetite and a quick change in mood, the product received from the cow, urine and breathing emit the smell of acetone.
For treatment, a solution of novocaine with glucose is used. In the more acute course of the disease, the following drugs should be mixed: distilled water, penicillin, caffeine, glucose, calcium chloride and sodium, sodium bicarbonate.
In order to prevent animals, it is worth feeding fresh grass, if it is not used, use only high-quality hay. Remove acidic foods from the diet. Include carrots, beets, potatoes and molasses in your daily diet.
These and many other serious diseases are found among cattle. Any farmer should know the rules for caring for animals and carry out all preventive measures. In case of illness, give effective treatment. It is possible to purchase the necessary drugs in our pharmacy or order online.
