Natural food for your pet, pros, cons and useful tips

Perhaps the first question that arises before the newly made owner of a puppy or a bred dog is: what is the best way to feed a dog? In search of an answer, you can flip through more than one book, spend more than one day on various forums and studying articles on the Internet, and even witness a fierce dispute between dog lovers on the site, and become completely confused. Actually, there are two global options: either choose industrial dry food, and then a competent veterinarian consultant in the store or a doctor in the clinic will help you, or feed the dog with natural food, carefully balancing its diet. If you are a supporter of the second option, then this article is for you.

It would seem that difficult in natural feeding? Give the pet what the family eats. But this is the biggest mistake in the discussions of dog owners! The digestive system of our, albeit distant, descendants of wolves, is fundamentally different from the human. Four-legged pets have absolutely nothing to give cereals (cereals) and flour products (pasta, for example), and even more so, sweet – this will provoke only a violation of the microflora and the normal functioning of the intestines.

The basis of a proper natural diet for carnivores is meat, followed by fermented milk products, and then the so-called complex carbohydrates, that is, vegetables (cabbage, carrots, cucumbers, zucchini) and bran. The listed list is all that you can feed a dog for a long time without harming its health. In addition, if you are really interested in the question “how to properly feed a dog?”, The answer is monotonous. There is no vital need to think up – what is better to give today – beef or chicken. If your pet likes beef, continue feeding it to her. Variety will only make the animal moody and selective in terms of food, but not the fact that it will contribute to better health.

If you want to pamper your beloved Friend – let him chew a piece of apple during the day, or an extraordinary piece of carrot. This will be the best delicacy, which, in addition to everything, is also fortified. Also, do not prohibit the pet from eating grass or berries from the bushes in the country (unless, of course, you are afraid to lose your jam crop).

It is highly recommended not to mix different types of diets. For example, mix dry food with kefir, and in general, add ready-made food to natural food. Firstly, if you give a dog dry food (naturally, a premium class is not lower), then all meat and vegetable components are already taken into account, and nothing else needs to be added. And secondly, this again will lead to an undesirable imbalance in the digestive system.

When choosing a natural way of feeding, many owners face another important question: how much to feed the dog? If you are interested in exactly the number of feedings per day, the answer is optimally 2 times – in the morning and in the evening. At the same time, consider that the intake of dairy products should not coincide with the intake of meat and vegetable foods. This means that you can give, for example, in the morning cottage cheese or kefir, and in the evening, meat with vegetables. Or divide the meat reception into two – in the morning and in the evening, and in the afternoon additionally give out kefir or cottage cheese. It is not forbidden to add bran to fermented milk products to provide the animal with necessary indigestible fiber, which will contribute to better excretion of roughage. And it would be nice to add a few drops (if the dog is miniature) to a tablespoon (if the pet is large) of vegetable or olive oil for meat with vegetables.

If you are concerned about the question “how much to hang in grams” – then a definite answer cannot be given. The average indicator for dogs older than six months – the amount of food per day should be 3-4% of the weight of the pet. In this case, one half of the diet should be meat components, and the second – fermented. That is, if your dog weighs 20 kilograms, then per day it should receive an average of 600-800 grams of food. Of these, 300-400 is meat, and as many sour-milk products. Plant components are not included in the calculation of the amount of food; you give them in addition to meat, at the rate of 1/3 of the total number of meat components. In our case, the dog will receive another 100 grams, for example, grated on a coarse grater of carrots.
If a puppy grows up in your house, the calculations will be completely different. Here the question “how to properly feed the puppy”, you can answer – often and little by little. If you took the dog from the kennel, then how many times to feed the puppy you are best told by the breeder. Specify the type of diet when buying a dog, since it is advisable not to abruptly transfer the baby to a radically different food. The number of feedings in the ideal case should be: 6 times a day from 1.5 to 2 months, up to 3 months – 5 times a day, up to 5 – 4 times a day, up to 7-12 – if possible 3 times a day . In this case, the total daily volume of food increases by 1.5-2 times and amounts to 6-8%
